UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay called on Tbilisi to investigate cases of torture in prisons, and to prosecute the perpetrators.
“We call on the government (of Georgia) to ensure prompt, impartial and effective investigation of all the evidence of human rights violations, not just those that are captured in the video. The perpetrators of these acts must be brought to justice, “- said on Friday a representative of Pillay Rupert Colville at a press conference in Geneva.
In Georgia, burst the scandal of torture in prisons. On Tuesday Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia reported cases of ill-treatment of prisoners in Gldani prison number 8. Currently, 10 individuals are arrested and placed in pretrial detention. Most of them are members of Gldani prison.
