Following the appointment of the new minister of internal affairs, the Georgian parliament will have to declare a no confidence vote to the government.
To date, six ministers have been replaced in the government. The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs happens to be the seventh. This requires a declaration of a new no confidence vote by parliament according to the law, Georgian parliament secretary Giya Khuroshvili said to journalists.
This will only happen in the case of new minister’s appointment. However, this position is still vacant, he noted.
According to the law, President Michail Saakashvili will have to submit a new government for approval within a week following the appointment of a new Minister of Internal Affairs.
Bacho Akalaya has recently left the position of Minister of Internal Affairs and Ekaterina Zguladze is currently acting minister.
Akahalaya formerly filled the position as head of the penal execution department at the Ministry of Justice from 2005 to 2008.
Protest marches are to be held around Georgia starting September 18 due to torture in prisons shown by TV opposition channels.
