The last events of Georgia have become the center of the attention of international public. The video shot in prison, where it is seen how the convicts are tortured, has caused a stream of mass protests in Georgia up to the point that protestants claim the president’s renouncement.
“Hraparak” writes in editorial: “Let us imagine what would happen if such video appeared in Armenia. Nobody would guess to accuse the minister of Justice or even the president. Maximum the head of the prison would be punished. The latter is not even certain to happen, as there is a large part of our society finding the tortures against the imprisoned normal. It would be even acceptable when the dignity and rights of those in prisons were violated. There is no scandal here not because our prisons are in ideal state, but because we have no idea what is going on there.”
It’s two days “Hraparak” is trying to ascertain the state of a convict who had called to “Hraparak” correspondent and informed of a violence against him in the medical department, namely that the doctor has hurt him instead of curing. But it’s no use to expect any answer. Even if the prison’s door opened for journalists while entering Euro Council, now it has become impossible to have access in prisons.
