TRT haber news agency reports that citizens of Bitlis region, Turkey, want to change the name of Lake Van, into “Datvan see ”, based on the archives of Osmanian Empire.
Mayor of Bitlis, Fahmi Allaidin also is for the decision of changing the name of the lake. According to him, the 65 percent of the area of Lake Van belongs to Bitlis region. Citizens of Bitlis also said that if the name is not changed into “Datvan” then at least it should be changed into “Bitlis-Van ” or “Van-bitlis”.
