As civil.ge reports Georgia’s political elite with participation of the president of the country Saakashvili and senior representatives from the oppositional coalition gathered together to launch post-renovation re-opening of the Kutaisi Bagrati Cathedral. The place symbolic for all Georgians was vowed to be rebuilt by Saakashvili early in 2008 after his second-term re-election address and oath taking in font of the cathedral. “We are grateful to everyone, especially to you Mr. President… who have participated in the restoration of this magnificent cathedral,” noted Patriarch Ilia II. In his turn Saakashvili noted that ““If we stand together, like we do now in this Cathedral… we will also be able to restore united, strong Georgia.” Ivanishvili, at the time absent due to his interview to Georgian Public TV, touched on the opening with words-“I do not want downplay [importance of this event], but as the political process is ongoing now I want to stress once again that Saakashvili is trying to capitalize on it as if he has done it; his contribution is the least to restoration of this cathedral”
