RA Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian held a joint press conference with Deputy Prime Minister of Luxemburg, Foreign Minister Jean Aselborn.
They noted twenty years of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Luxembourg, talked of strengthening the legal framework, economic development, culture, education and science spheres of cooperation.
Answering the question whether he received a letter from Hungarian authorities to settle the conflict Nalbandian responded that the point is not the fact if he had received that or not but that the Hungarian side published Hungarian Foreign Minister Mr. Martoni’s letter. “The feedback that is heard from the Hungarian side, attempts to justify what happened. They claim that the Hungarian side is not responsible for it. Anyway Armenia suspended relations with Hungary.” Noted Nalbandian further stated that “ The Hungarian side is saying that the decision to extradite Safarov to Azerbaijan is in line with the Strasbourg Convention, the Convention of the Council of Europe. You know that the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe stated that the deal abuses that convention. This is the reality. The reactions voiced from the Hungarian side are attempts to justify what happened. They are claiming that the Hungarian side takes no responsibility for that deal. The reason why Armenia made a decision to suspend the relations with Hungary is due to Hungary’s responsibility for that deal.”
Referring to the issue of the potential for further development of Eastern Partnership Armenia’s Foreign Minister noted that “The international community showed unanimous and unified approach. There is no country which would express its support to the incident, and no country which would express its support to Azerbaijan. There is no international body that would not express his negative attitude on this transaction.”
