Recall that last week, speaking at the APEC summit, U.S. State Secretary Hillary Clinton said that Washington hopes that the law on the abolition of the Jackson-Vanik amendment will be adopted in September.
The Jackson-Vanik amendment was added to the Trade Act of the United States in 1974. Its main purpose is to limit trade with non-market economies. In particular, it limits the freedom of emigration. The Jackson-Vanik amendment applies also to Azerbaijan.
