“Aravot” informs that general secretary of the “Heritage” party, Stepan Safaryan, had a face to face debate with his counterpart of Republicans party, Hovhannes Sahakyan.
The debate concerned Ramil Safarov’s issue and the future steps of the Armenian side.
One of the journalists of “Aravot” press, put this issue on the table:
“The commending letter to Azerbaijan and Hungary, which was accepted by the Armenian National Assembly, on September 5, during its special session, didn’t reach its aim, and was somehow a weak letter, what do you think why it didn’t work and what should be done in the future?”
To the question first responded Safaryan, saying:
“I don’t want to say that the letter was weak or strong, and it is wrong that such media is filled with such conversations. With that letter we didn’t want to show the international organizations the real “face” of Azerbaijan or its leader, but we wanted to show them the policy which is used in Azerbaijan, and the way they want to succeed their goal. Another important part of the letter was that we showed the entire world, including Armenia, that we, the opposition and the authorities, can unite for solving an issue. This experience will be very helpful for the future, for example, to solve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, together, with the same aim and idea. From this point of view I consider the letter was successful.”
Sahakyan added: “For all of us the situation is shocking, and it was a great attack on our national security and naturally our authorities condemned it. We cut all the ties with Hungary, and to tell the truth, in recent years, none of our officials went to Hungary for any negotiations or with further development projects, and the same was from their side. I want to say that practically we were far from each other, but I have some concerns on the issue. We can’t reject the fact that Hungary did what did, I mean Safarov’s extradition and cooperation with Azerbaijan, but there is also an important issue. All of you know that some Hungarian people, officials condemn their countries’ step and even start some demonstrations on the street. Why am I talking about this? I mentioned the facts in order to understand, should we totally cut the relations with Hungary or we should go to Hungary and talk to the part, who condemns the step, and by the help of them try to put pressure on Azerbaijan? I think we should discuss this problem. So in a word, I think we should do such steps in Hungary, in order to change something in that country that will give positive result for the Armenian side. I thought that this issue should have been discussed on September 5, but none of them raised the issue, but I hope we will take this into consideration for the future. ”
