The question of Georgia’s membership to NATO is already put forward, but the other two countries of the region Armenia and Azerbaijan cooperate with NATO just in the frames of different programs. This viewpoint was expressed by the head of Armenian center of Strategic and National investigations Manvel Sargsyan in the interview with “First Armenian News and Analysis” commenting on NATO strategy in the region.
He highlighted a fact that NATO doesn’t support countries that are just in program cooperation. NATO defends only its member countries and at the same time it doesn’t take responsibility even for those countries who are its close partners.
“It’s natural that NATO’s relations with Georgia are of another character, as Georgia expressed a wish to integrate into NATO, and the latter seems not to mind. There were announcements that these three countries are observed in one regional plane, but it doesn’t mean that NATO takes Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia as a whole.”- elaborated Manvel Sargsyan.
We remind that these days the Secretary General of NATO Anders Fog Rasmussen visited Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan.
