On September 6, the RA NA chairman Hovik Abrahamyan received the Chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives of Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe and Eurasia Congressman Dan Barton.
Welcoming the visit of Dan Barton, Hovik Abrahamyan noted that the political relations between the two countries are at a high level and there is a strong partnership between the United States and Armenia in both bilateral and multilateral levels.
The NA Chairman noted that the government is determined to deepen, expand, and to develop bilateral relations with the U.S., particularly in the security, economic and cultural spheres. He praised the U.S. involvement in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process.
On speaking of the Armenian officer Gourgen Margaryan and Azeri officer Ramil Safarov the NA Chairman said that these steps of the Hungarian and Azeri authorities are against the international conventions, as well as all moral norms.
Expressing gratitude for the welcome, U.S. congressman noted that the United States attaches great importance to further development of cooperation with Armenia in different directions. Mr. Barton stressed the importance of intensifying inter-parliamentary contacts, suggesting activation of different formats. U.S. congressman condemned Hungary and Azerbaijan and expressed readiness to represent the statement of the RA National Assembly at the next session of the U.S. Congress.
During the meeting the parties discussed the settlement of the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Armenian-Turkish relations and other issues of mutual interest.
