Until the last moment the chairmen of the Minsk Group co-chairing countries were not aware of the Hungarian decision about the transfer of Ramil Safarov to Azerbaijan. This was announced today in the NA tribune by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandian, answering the accusations of RA Foreign-departmental body by various deputies, mainly PAP member Naira Zohrabyan’s accusations about an extraordinary session of the National Assembly’s adoption of the text for Ramil Safarov’s transfer and pardon.
“Immediately after Safarov’s crime 2004 and the publication of the sentence Azerbaijan was making intensive efforts to release him from criminal punishment. Receiving regular information about the attempts, RA President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, the President of Parliament, ambassadors drew Hungarian authorities’ attention to the criminal inadmissibility of extradition and have received numerous unequivocal assurances from Hungary that such a move is excluded, but including August 22, 23 and 24, the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice giving those assurances, reaffirmed the former ones.” said Foreign Minister, adding that on August 24 written request has been sent to Hungary.
But on August 28 due to delay of the response, Armenian side organized meetings in the Hungarian Parliament and the Foreign Ministry where Armenian side was assured that there is no such thing, and further developments are known.
