According to sociological research of the National Democratic Institute (NDI), presented on Wednesday, September 5, the majority of respondents, 62%, supported the aim of the Georgian Government regarding the country’s accession to NATO.
While 9% of respondents were against the country’s membership in NATO, 25% of respondents said they did not know the answer to this question, and 4% – refused to answer.
It should be noted also 9% of respondents to a question about threats from Russia said they do not consider Russia as a threat. The question “When Georgia will become a member of NATO?” 54% of respondents answered “I do not know”, 26% of respondents believe that the country will join the alliance after 2014, 10% – “never”, 7% – “next year.”
As for Georgia’s accession to the EU, 68% of respondents supported the Government’s commitment of the European integration, 5% – gave negative answer, 24% – do not know the answer, and 3% – refused to answer.
Field works were conducted from July 31 till August 12 on the basis of selective interviews. 2038 people were interrogated.
