Armenia’s first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan submitted an application to the International Court of Human Rights for violation of the right of free choice.
In the European Court of Human Rights the Representative of the First President Vahe Grigoryan said that it refers to infringement of the right of free choice at presidential elections in February 2008. V. Grigoryan also added: “The court of appeal told the government- based on personal liberty and the rights of free movement- the arrest of the first President on March 1. The other point is that the first president, because of his political beliefs, was treated in discriminatory behavior. ”
This fact was seriously criticized in RA public and political settings, and was discussed in social networks. President expressed political opinion that it would be more appropriate arraign the head of the RA first president’s office.
V.Grigoryan commented on this issue, saying that if the application against the RA government is denied, it means that the RA is on the international commitments of its position. If the application is granted, it means RA broke all its commitments. This refers not only to the international obligations of the government, but to the legislature and the courts. It refers to the heavy responsibilities of the Constitution. We can say by the same logic, what makes sense to appeal to the Administrative, Constitutional Court. So this is just an absolute demagogy. ”
