In 2006, today died famous Armenian poetess Silva Kaputikyan.
Born to parents that were originally from Van, she lived in Yerevan, the Armenian capital, her entire life, and died there of a stroke, aged 87.
In 1937, graduated from the featured school in Yerevan (now after Nicole’s Aghbalyan), in 1933 “Pioneer Calls” newspaper published her 1st poem, (“Answer to Tumanyan” titled).
In 1941 graduated from YSU, Faculty of Philology, 1949-1950 studied in Moscow, and graduated from the M. Gorky Institute of Literature degree Course.
Since 1941 member of the Union of Writers of Armenia. In 1945 her first book “With the days” then 60-70 books were published; poems and prose. In 1952 for “My Family” collection of the poems was awarded USSR and in 1988 Armenian SSR Soviet State prizes. She has published 40 children’s works.
She was awarded with the “Renowned Master of Arts” Armenian SSR (1970) and “Renowned Worker of Arts” Georgian SSR (1980) official titles, State prizes of USSR (1952) and Armenian SSR (1988), “Nosside” Italian prize, orders of St. Mesrop Mashtots (Armenia) and “Knyaginia Olga” (Ukraine). She was a member of International PEN.
She was elected as USSR Supreme Soviet Deputy, member of the Presidium of the USSR Writer’s Union. In 2009, January 20, for her 90th birthday according to the decision of RA Government Poetess Museum was opened at her lived home.
