NASA’s Psyche spacecraft, which is heading toward a rare metallic asteroid, will make an extremely close flyby of Mars this week, using the planet’s gravity to gain momentum. The spacecraft will fly past Mars at about 12,300 mph (19,848 km/h) and come within just 2,800 miles (4,500 km). During that time, Psyche’s full array of scientific instruments will be on duty, and its cameras will take thousands of photos.
