Russia has launched a combined drone and missile strike on Kyiv. An entire section of a residential building in the Darnytskyi district of the Ukrainian capital has been destroyed. Rescuers say at least 24 people, including three children, have been killed in the attack.
At least 47 people, including two children, have been injured. Authorities say there may be people trapped under the rubble, and search and rescue operations are ongoing.
After a series of drone strikes on Wednesday afternoon, Russia fired more than 600 drones and 56 missiles into Ukraine on Thursday night, according to the Ukrainian Air Force. The main target of the attack was Kyiv.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on his Telegram channel that 20 sites in the capital were damaged, including a school, a veterinary clinic, and residential buildings. “These are definitely not the actions of those who believe that the war is coming to an end. It is important that our partners do not remain silent about this strike,” Zelensky said.
The Russian Defense Ministry said the attack was carried out with long-range weapons, including Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, as well as strike drones. The ministry said the strikes targeted Ukrainian military-industrial complex enterprises, military airfields, and “fuel and transport infrastructure facilities.”
