O’Brien, the Emmy-winning comedian and host, will also host the 99th Academy Awards in 2027, the Academy announced. O’Brien has hosted the previous two Oscars to rave reviews. During this year’s opening monologue, he joked that he was “honored to be the last human host of the Oscars,” adding that next year’s ceremony will be hosted by a tuxedo-clad Waymo robot taxi.
Academy presidents Bill Kramer and Lynette Howell Taylor said in a joint statement that the team has created “captivating, entertaining and moving shows over the past two years.” They said they look forward to Conan O’Brien once again bringing his brilliance and humor to the awards show.
The 99th Academy Awards will air live on ABC on March 14, 2027, from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. This will be the penultimate Oscars at that location and in that format; starting in 2029, the show will move to YouTube and downtown Los Angeles for the 101st Academy Awards.
