Armenian U17 Greco-Roman wrestling team member Vahe Hoveyan won a gold medal in the 80 kg weight category at the European Championship in Samokov, Bulgaria.
In the final, the Armenian wrestler defeated Hungarian Dominik Szilagyi in a close fight.
Armenia’s other representative, Zaven Mezhlumyan, won a silver medal in the 65 kg weight category. He lost to Russian Aslan Zuev 3:6 in the final.
Ararat Avetisyan (48 kg) and Gegham Yeghiazaryan (55 kg) won bronze medals. Avetisyan defeated Ukrainian Timur Maharamov 10:4 in the fight for 3rd place, while Yeghiazaryan tied with Bulgarian Keve Kovac 3:3.
Among the Greco-Roman wrestlers, Alexan Shaljyan (92 kg) and Janes Nazaryan (71 kg) also reached the finals.
The Armenian teams are participating in the European Wrestling Championship U17, which is taking place from May 11-17, with full squads.
The freestyle wrestlers will start competing on May 15. Under the leadership of senior coach Arshak Hayrapetyan, Erik Ghazaryan (45 kg), Gegham Hovsepyan (48 kg), Aren Piruzyan (51 kg), Suren Ishkhanyan (55 kg), Tigran Kolotyan (60 kg), Razmik Voskanyan (65 kg), Avetik Tutkhalyan (71 kg), Yeghishe Mosesyan (80 kg), Artur Mkrtchyan (92 kg), and Vram Sahakyan (110 kg) will take to the mat.
