European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has issued a stern warning to major tech companies and social media platforms.
The EU is taking action against TikTok over the platform’s “addictive design,” including endless scrolling, autoplay, and push notifications.
Similar concerns have been raised about Meta. Von der Leyen said Instagram and Facebook were failing to enforce the 13-year-old age limit effectively.
In addition, formal proceedings have been opened against Platform X over the creation and distribution of child sexual abuse material by its Grok artificial intelligence.
“This is a deliberate choice by tech companies to make money at the expense of children,” the European Commission chief said.
