Finnish President Alexander Stubb said in a lengthy interview with the Corriere della Sera newspaper that Europe should prepare for a direct dialogue with Moscow.
In his opinion, if US foreign policy ceases to correspond to the interests of the European Union, then European leaders should show initiative and not remain hostage to Washington’s decisions.
Stubb stressed that it is time to start negotiations with Russia to resolve the conflict. Although he did not specify dates, he noted that this issue has already been discussed with those European leaders who have taken the initiative to engage.
According to the Finnish president, Europe must act independently if it believes American approaches to Ukraine and Russia do not serve its own interests.
