Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens to stop driving and switch to remote work. Indians should show patriotism by doing everything possible to maximize savings amid a shortage of oil products, Modi said.
He urged citizens to avoid using cars, to prefer public transport, and, if possible, to stay at home. In particular, he suggested that business representatives consider introducing remote work schemes as widely as possible. Modi also urged citizens to refrain from traveling, especially abroad, and, if travel cannot be postponed, to use rail transport instead.
Modi also asked citizens to refrain from buying gold. According to him, this will reduce domestic demand for currency needed to buy energy resources. For the future, he advised Indians to switch to cars and solar energy.
According to analysts, due to the Strait of Hormuz blockade, the country’s existing fuel reserves will last about 25 days.
