Ukraine has announced that negotiations with Russia on a prisoner exchange are continuing.
“As a result of the negotiations held yesterday with the mediation of the United States, Ukraine has transferred to the Russian side the ‘List of 1000’, which was compiled based on the period of captivity. The negotiation process is ongoing,” the Ukrainian headquarters said in a statement.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported on the same day that he had contacted the United States regarding guarantees for the implementation of the exchange agreements within the framework of a short-term ceasefire.
Moscow and Kyiv have accepted Washington’s proposal to establish a short-term ceasefire on May 8-11, which envisages the exchange of 1,000 prisoners of war by each side.
Zelensky said: “The exchange of prisoners of war of 1,000 for 1,000 is being prepared and must be implemented. The American side has undertaken these guarantees.”
According to him, “The Ukrainian Coordination Headquarters has transferred the lists of 1,000 people to the Russian side. Since this agreement was reached through American mediation, we expect the United States to actively participate in ensuring its implementation.”
