Severe storms have hit several counties in the US state of Mississippi, causing serious damage. According to official data, at least one confirmed tornado has passed through the area, uprooting trees, downing power lines, and damaging hundreds of homes.
A very large and dangerous tornado has moved from Lincoln to Lawrence County. Governor Tate Reeves noted that several tornadoes have been reported in central and western Mississippi, and that emergency services are coordinating relief efforts. Meteorologists have warned that a wave of new storms is expected, with possible tornadoes in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida, and severe thunderstorms in the Carolinas and Texas.
