Connectivity in the region is a key strategic priority for the European Union. On 5 May 2026, at the historic first EU-Armenia summit in Yerevan, the parties announced the establishment of a “Connectivity Partnership”.
This strategic initiative aims to strengthen transport, energy, and digital links between Armenia and the European Union, promoting regional stability and economic prosperity.
The new partnership is fully aligned with the Armenian government’s “Crossroads of Peace” initiative and will be implemented within the framework of the EU’s “Global Gateway” program. The following three priorities are at the heart of the cooperation:
- Transport: Armenia’s inclusion in regional transport networks and integration into the Trans-Caspian Corridor.
- Energy: Reducing energy dependence and increasing system resilience and security.
- Digitalization: Realizing Armenia’s technological potential, with a focus on artificial intelligence and engineering.
To ensure the practical implementation of the partnership, a platform for the “EU-Armenia High-Level Dialogue on Communications” will be established. It will enable coordination of investments, define strategic objectives, and align the legislative framework with European standards.
The EU has already launched the call for expressions of interest within the project framework, aiming to translate the identified priorities into concrete investment projects.
