Iran has said it will respond with “prolonged and painful strikes” if the US resumes its attacks and reasserts its claim to control the Strait of Hormuz.
Two months after the US-Israeli-Iran conflict, the strategically important strait remains closed, disrupting about 20% of the world’s oil and gas supplies. This has led to a sharp increase in energy prices and heightened concerns about the risks of a global economic recession.
Despite a ceasefire announced on April 8, negotiations are not progressing. Iran continues to keep the Strait closed in response to US restrictions on its oil exports.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said it was unrealistic to expect quick results from talks with the US.
Meanwhile, air defense activity was recorded in Tehran late on Thursday. According to local media, defense systems shot down small drones and reconnaissance aircraft.
