Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), who is currently visiting the country, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported. During the meeting, humanitarian issues in the region and the ongoing cooperation between Azerbaijan and the ICRC were discussed. Both sides emphasized that their partnership is long-standing and built on mutual trust, stressing the importance of maintaining a regular, constructive dialogue.
The humanitarian activities carried out by the ICRC in the region were also discussed. The Azerbaijani side emphasized the importance of their support for these efforts. Jeyhun Bayramov noted that Azerbaijan has always adhered to humanitarian principles amid tensions and military operations in the region, including by providing humanitarian assistance to the country during the ongoing military operations in Iran.
At the same time, it was noted that in the modern era, armed conflicts mainly have serious consequences for the civilian population, and the importance of mobilizing international community efforts in this regard was emphasized. In this context, special emphasis was placed on Azerbaijan’s importance attached to international law and international humanitarian law, as well as its unwavering commitment to these principles.
Jeyhun Bayramov presented to the other side the work being carried out to promote the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia and strengthen mutual trust. During the meeting, the parties also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
