Mohsen Rezaei, a senior military adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has said Tehran “will not tolerate” an extension of the US-led naval blockade.
In an interview with Iranian state television, Rezaei said Iran would take retaliatory measures if the blockade continued.
He also claimed that the US operation had failed and Washington had failed to establish full control.
“The Indian Ocean is very wide, and we can easily cross it. We have already done that,” the adviser added.
At the same time, the adviser tried to dispel rumors about the health of the country’s new leader, as Khamenei has not been seen in public for six weeks.
Rezaei insisted that the leader is “young, healthy, and energetic,” although US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had earlier questioned the new leader’s legitimacy and level of influence within Iran.
