Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump had a telephone conversation that lasted more than an hour and a half, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov reported.
During the conversation, Putin stated that Russia is ready to declare a temporary ceasefire on the occasion of Victory Day, and Trump expressed his support. The latter also noted that, in his assessment, a deal to resolve the conflict over Ukraine is close.
According to the Russian president, since the beginning of 2025, Russia has transferred more than 20 thousand bodies of the dead to Ukraine, while the Ukrainian side has received about 500 bodies. Putin also emphasized that to resolve the conflict, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky must respond positively to the previously submitted proposals.
Putin presented the situation in the combat zone, noting that Russian troops are advancing and pressuring the enemy. He added that Russia’s goals will be achieved, but that Moscow prefers to do so through negotiations.
According to the Kremlin leader, the Kyiv authorities are prolonging the conflict and, according to him, are using “terrorist methods” by striking civilian targets.
During the conversation, the parties also touched upon the situation in the Middle East. Trump presented his assessments of the region, while Putin noted that a possible US ground operation against Iran would be “unacceptable and dangerous.” He also positively assessed the decision to maintain the ceasefire regime around Iran, viewing it as a stabilizing factor.
During the phone conversation, Putin expressed support for Trump in connection with the assassination attempt on him and strongly condemned this crime.
The parties also discussed the prospects for bilateral economic cooperation, highlighting the potential for mutually beneficial projects in the energy and other sectors. In addition, Putin congratulated Melania Trump on her birthday, noting her contribution to the reunification of families of Russian and Ukrainian children.
At the end of the conversation, Putin and Trump agreed to continue contacts, both on a personal level and through their aides.
