Google has joined OpenAI and xAI in signing a contract with the US military to use artificial intelligence models in secret networks.
According to The Information, the agreement allows the Pentagon (which Donald Trump renamed the Department of War) to use the technology for any lawful purpose, including combat planning and targeting.
The value of these deals, signed in 2025, is about $ 200 million. Google must be committed to reviewing security settings and filters at the government’s request.
Although the contract states that the technology is not intended for autonomous weapons without human control, it also emphasizes that the company does not have the right to veto or control the government’s operational decisions.
With this step, the Pentagon seeks to gain maximum flexibility in the defense sector, free from the standard prohibitions imposed by technology giants.
