French President Emmanuel Macron said he had a telephone conversation with Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian to discuss the ongoing talks in Islamabad and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Macron wrote on his X page that he called on the Iranian side to take advantage of the ongoing dialogue in Islamabad to contribute to a sustainable reduction in tensions and to reach a comprehensive agreement that would provide reliable guarantees for regional security, with the participation of all interested countries.
The French president also stressed the need to swiftly restore freedom of navigation and security in the Strait of Hormuz, noting that France is ready to support this process.
In addition, Macron stressed the importance of fully respecting the ceasefire regime, including in Lebanon. It stated that France is ready to fully support the Lebanese authorities as the only legitimate institution in the country that exercises sovereignty and makes decisions regarding Lebanon’s future.
