The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has said that nearly 600 children have been killed or injured in Lebanon since the escalation of the Israeli-Hezbollah conflict that began on March 2. More than 30 children were killed, and nearly 150 were injured in Israeli shelling on Wednesday alone.
The organization said in a statement that it continues to receive reports of children being pulled from the rubble, while many are still missing or have lost contact with their families.
The number of internally displaced people in the country has exceeded one million, of whom about 390,000 are children. Many of them have been forced to flee their homes for the third or fourth time, leaving them insecure and suffering deep psychological trauma.
