Volodymyr Zelensky has publicly confirmed for the first time that Ukrainian military personnel have taken part in operations abroad, shooting down Iranian-made Shahed drones in several countries in the Middle East during the Iran-Iraq war.
According to the Ukrainian president, these operations are part of a broader strategy aimed at helping partner countries counter the same type of weapons that Russia widely uses in its war against Ukraine.
Zelensky made the remarks during a press conference, but his statements were not made public until a few days after the embargo was lifted. He noted that Ukrainian forces have taken part in active military operations using domestically produced, combat-tested anti-drone systems.
