French President Emmanuel Macron has issued a sweeping statement summarizing a series of high-level phone calls on the situation in the Middle East. The head of the Elysee Palace said he had private conversations with Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump, praising their decision to establish a ceasefire and calling it “the best possible step.”
Macron stressed that full observance of the ceasefire on all fronts, including in Lebanon, is crucial for the credibility and durability of the process. According to him, this ceasefire should pave the way for comprehensive negotiations that will guarantee the security of all countries in the region.
“I spoke with both Massoud Pezeshkian and Donald Trump. I told both of them that their decision to accept a ceasefire was the best. I expressed the hope that the ceasefire would be fully respected by all parties to the conflict, in all areas of the conflict, including in Lebanon. “This is a necessary condition for the ceasefire to be credible and lasting,” Macron wrote on his X page.
