Bloomberg reports that despite a two-week ceasefire announced by Donald Trump and Iran, there is still no clarity on the movement of more than 800 ships blocked in the Persian Gulf. There are no visible changes in the Strait of Hormuz, which was closed to shipping during the war. Shipowners are being cautious, waiting for security guarantees and consulting with insurance companies.
The Iranian side has announced that it agrees to ensure the safe passage of ships within two weeks but stressed that this must take place within the framework of “technical restrictions” and in coordination with its armed forces. At the same time, President Trump announced the “full, immediate, and safe opening” of the strait, adding that the United States will support the restoration of transport flows and “will be nearby.”
However, most international carriers warn that a deeper and clearer understanding of the situation is needed before shipping can resume. Although some ships have already been brought to a state of readiness, owners are waiting for more concrete actions that will allay safety concerns.
