US President Donald Trump told AFP in a telephone conversation that the two-week ceasefire agreement with Iran was a “100 percent and complete victory” for Washington.
President Trump stated that a 15-point deal framework existed, with most of its terms already agreed upon. Referring to the issue of Iran’s enriched uranium, the White House chief assured that the issue would be “perfectly resolved,” otherwise he would not have agreed. Trump stressed that any final peace agreement must exclude the possibility of Iran obtaining nuclear weapons.
“A complete and complete victory. 100 percent. There is no doubt about it,” Trump told AFP in a telephone conversation.
Speaking about the negotiation process, the US president said that China had played an important role in bringing Tehran back to the negotiating table.
Trump is scheduled to travel to Beijing in mid-May to meet with Xi Jinping, a visit that the Iranian conflict postponed. Despite the optimism, the president has declined to specify whether he will return to his original threats to strike Iranian infrastructure if the deal fails, limiting himself to a “we’ll see” response.
