The American news outlet Axios reports that this Friday in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, the first round of talks aimed at ending the war between the United States and Iran is scheduled.
This will be the first face-to-face meeting between the parties since the start of the conflict, made possible by the two-week ceasefire announced by President Trump.
Although the White House notes that the president will approve the meeting’s format, the American delegation is expected to be led by Vice President J.D. Vance. The latter works closely with the Pakistani leadership, which has played a major role in mediating this process.
A senior US official said that Vance has established relations with Pakistani Field Marshal Asim Munir, whom Trump and Araghchi, as well as the country’s prime minister, thanked for their work on the ceasefire.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, confirming the invitation, expressed hope that the “Islamabad talks” would lay the foundation for lasting peace.
