US President Donald Trump is facing a crucial decision: whether to launch a targeted attack on Iranian infrastructure or give in to the urgings of mediators.
According to Axios, Trump has previously threatened to create “real hell” in Iran if Tehran does not open the Strait of Hormuz. At the moment, mediators from Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey are trying to broker a deal between the parties or at least buy time to prevent strikes.
Opinions within the presidential administration are divided. While Vice President J.D. Vance, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner are inclined to try to reach an agreement, Trump himself is considered the most combative. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the leaders of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, as well as Senator Lindsey Graham, are urging the president not to agree to a ceasefire until Iran makes concessions on the opening of the strait and uranium enrichment.
