Renowned designer Adriano Goldschmied, known as the “godfather of denim,” has died in Italy at 82. The co-founder of the Diesel brand had been battling cancer for a long time.
He revolutionized the fashion world by transforming jeans from a work uniform into an integral part of high fashion.
Goldschmied’s career began in the early 1970s, and in 1981, he founded the Genius Group, which helped create famous brands such as Diesel and Replay.
He also stood at the origins of the Gap 1969, AG Adriano Goldschmied, and Goldsign brands. In addition to his design successes, he was a pioneer in introducing ecological approaches to fashion, actively using sustainable production methods and innovative materials.
In recent decades, the designer focused his activities in Los Angeles, where he pioneered the production of premium ecological denim.
Even in the last years of his life, he continued to collaborate with leading fashion houses.
