The crew of the Artemis 2 mission, which flew around the Moon, named one of the lunar craters in honor of Carol Wiseman, the wife of the mission commander Reed Wiseman, reports The New York Times.
According to the newspaper, the astronauts sent a special request to mission control to name one of the unnamed lunar craters after Carol Wiseman. “We have lost a loved one, her name was Carol, she was Reed’s wife, the mother of Kate and Ellie (the names of their daughters) … this is a bright spot on the Moon (meaning the crater), and we want to call it Carol,” the astronauts noted. The commander’s wife died in 2020 at the age of 46 from cancer.
