The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has expressed its dissatisfaction with official Russian circles through diplomatic channels, considering the use of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue in the context of Armenian-Russian relations inadmissible. According to Baku, the public statements made during and after the recent meeting between the Russian President and the Armenian Prime Minister concern the internal affairs of Azerbaijan and are subject to political speculation.
The Azerbaijani side also reacted to an interview by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian President, in which he touched upon the issue of recognizing Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan. Baku has reaffirmed its position that territorial integrity is based on international law and is not subject to the decisions of other states.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry expects that Moscow will refrain from making issues related to its sovereignty the subject of public clarifications, especially against the background of the current complex Armenian-Russian relations.
“Once again, we express to the Russian side our expectations that issues related to Azerbaijan’s sovereignty will not become the subject of public clarification of relations during the current period, when Russian-Armenian relations continue to remain complicated,” the statement said.
