Turkey will continue to support the negotiation process between Russia and Ukraine, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said during a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Istanbul.

Erdogan stressed that Ankara attaches enormous importance to the safety of navigation in the Black Sea and to ensuring energy security. He also expressed Turkey’s determination to increase trade with Ukraine and to continue taking the necessary steps in this direction.
According to Zelenskyy, Erdogan suggested holding negotiations in Istanbul. The Ukrainian president said that he had discussed ways to end the war with the Turkish leader and noted that Kyiv was ready to hold talks at the level of leaders in any format.
Zelensky announced after the meeting with Erdogan that new steps in cooperation in the security sector had been agreed upon.
“During the meeting with the Turkish President in Istanbul, we discussed bilateral relations between our countries, the situation in Europe, and the Middle East. We agreed on new steps in cooperation in the security sector. First of all, this concerns the areas where we can support Turkey: expertise, technologies, and experience.
We discussed steps in implementing joint projects for the development of gas infrastructure, as well as the possibility of joint development of gas fields,” Zelensky said.
