A Russian cosmonaut has told how people could live on the Moon for months in the future.
According to Anton Shkaplerov, Hero of Russia, pilot-cosmonaut and deputy of the Moscow City Duma, in the future, people could work on the Moon in shifts. According to him, the Moon could play an important role as a source of minerals.
Shkaplerov noted that transporting ore to Earth is not economically profitable, so the extraction and processing of minerals should be carried out on the Moon itself. According to the cosmonaut, most of this work will be performed by robots, since the lunar environment is quite harsh (aggressive) for humans. However, like any equipment, robots can break down, and people will have to deal with repairs.
He believes that in the future, people will be on the Moon in shifts, for example, for three months, six months, or even a year. Shkaplerov also emphasized that this will require the creation of a full-fledged space base that allows the crew to stay on the Moon for an extended period.
