French President Emmanuel Macron has said that Paris does not consider or find realistic the option of opening the Strait of Hormuz by force. He argued that such a military operation could last indefinitely and expose the armed forces to enormous risks from coastal and ballistic missiles.
Macron stressed that the reopening of the strait should take place exclusively in cooperation with Iran.
“From the beginning, we have said that it should be reopened, but only in coordination with Iran. The world cannot tolerate a strait that can be opened or closed overnight,” the French president said.
