Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has announced that 90% of the work on the Zangezur Corridor highway and 70% of the railway have already been completed. According to him, the entire transport infrastructure in Azerbaijan, including the Baku port and airports, has been brought to full readiness.
Aliyev noted that the start of construction of the Kars-Nakhichevan railway in Turkey will create a new branch of the Middle Corridor, with an initial capacity of 15 million tons of cargo per year.
“The coordinated and simultaneous implementation of these projects will open a new international corridor, a branch of the Middle Corridor. The railway infrastructure we have built is designed to transport 15 million tons of cargo at the initial stage, with the potential for further growth. In any case, the opening of a new corridor with a capacity of 15 million tons is of great importance not only for our countries, but also for the wider region,” he said.
The Azerbaijani leader expressed hope that the project will be fully implemented in the near future, emphasizing that it serves regional stability and mutually beneficial economic cooperation.
