Bulgaria has officially appealed to the European Union to prevent potential Russian interference in the parliamentary elections scheduled for April 19.
As Politico reports, Sofia expects the European External Action Service to support its efforts to identify manipulations of public opinion on social networks and propaganda websites.
To this end, Bulgaria has requested the launch of a “Rapid Response System” to enable direct contact with Meta, Google, and TikTok to stop disinformation campaigns.
It is noteworthy that Bulgaria, which has long denied such interference, has now hardened its position: the country’s Foreign Ministry has already created a special unit.
The April elections will be the eighth in the past five years, following the wave of protests and the government’s resignation in late 2025, further underscoring the need to protect against external influences.
