US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that Washington sees a “finish line” in its war with Iran.
“We see a finish line. It’s not today or tomorrow, but it will happen,” Rubio said on Fox News Channel.
Rubio noted that there is an exchange of messages between Iran and the United States. “There is an exchange of messages, there are negotiations. There is a possibility of a direct meeting after some time,” he said.
Rubio said that “at this point, no government or country in the world is taking any action to assist Iran that would in any way hinder our mission.”
He added that after the war, Washington will need to review its relationship with NATO. “Ultimately, this decision will have to be made by the president, and he will have to make it.”
“But I think that unfortunately we will need to review whether this alliance, which has served our country well for many years, is still fulfilling its function or whether it has turned into a one-sided process where America simply defends Europe, but when we need the help of our allies, they deny us the right to deploy bases and allow us to fly over their airspace,” he added, referring to the use of military bases.
