The US has launched airstrikes on the central Iranian city of Isfahan. Simultaneously, Tehran has targeted Kuwaiti tankers in the Persian Gulf, fully loaded with oil.
The attacks are an indication of how fierce the month-long conflict is, according to AP News. Iran continues to control the Strait of Hormuz, blocking a vital waterway for global energy supplies, leading to a sharp increase in oil prices and shaking world markets.
US President Donald Trump, who insists on the need for progress in diplomatic talks to achieve a ceasefire, has released a video of the attack on Isfahan, in which the night sky is lit up with fiery explosions. Isfahan is one of three facilities that US forces previously attacked in June, and is believed to be storing or burying some of Iran’s highly enriched uranium.
Meanwhile, Israel reported the deaths of four more soldiers during its incursion into Lebanon, as well as the deaths of two UN peacekeepers. This led the UN Security Council to call an emergency meeting later today.
