OpenAI has shut down Sora, an artificial intelligence (AI) video-making app that launched two years ago and received widespread acclaim for its ability to create realistic videos from simple commands. At the same time, according to the BBC, OpenAI is also ending its content partnership with entertainment giant Disney.
An OpenAI spokesperson said Sora was being shut down so the company could focus on other developments, such as robotics that “help people solve real-world physical problems.”
In December, Disney became the first major studio to grant OpenAI intellectual property (IP) rights to use in its AI video tools. As part of the deal, Sora users could create AI videos featuring Disney characters, such as Mickey Mouse.
