Iran has set strict conditions for returning to ceasefire talks with the Trump administration, demanding radical concessions that would fundamentally change the balance of regional power. According to The Wall Street Journal, citing informed sources, Tehran’s demands include the end of the US military presence in the Middle East and the closure of all bases in the Gulf. In addition, Iran is demanding the complete lifting of sanctions, reparations for attacks against it, and the right to maintain its own missile program without restrictions.
The Iranian side’s ambitions also extend to areas of economic and strategic control. Tehran wants to introduce a new system in the Strait of Hormuz that would allow it to collect transit fees from passing ships, and also demands an end to Israeli strikes on Hezbollah and guarantees that the war will not resume.
Senior American officials have described Tehran’s demands as completely unrealistic. According to Arab and American experts, such a maximalist stance makes it almost impossible to reach any stable agreement in the near future, as the presented conditions contradict the fundamental interests of Washington and its regional allies.
