Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi spoke by phone with US Ambassador to the United States Steve Witkoff and said Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei had approved talks with Washington, the Israeli Ynet newspaper reported, citing an Iranian official.
According to Ynet, the conversation between Witkoff and Araghchi took place on Thursday, March 19. The source noted that “it was important for Araghchi to show the US the order that prevails in Iran.”
Araghchi reportedly said that Khamenei was ready for a quick end to the war, but on Tehran’s terms, roughly the same terms that were discussed in the Geneva talks before the war.
In particular, Iran is ready to discuss the export of enriched uranium to Russia, but is not ready to completely abandon its nuclear program and ballistic missiles.
